KENNETH DAVIS TAILBACK 1982-84 When Davis got loose in the secondary, defenders would have been wise to stop in their tracks. It would have saved the embarrassment of trying – and failing – to stop the consensus first team All-American tailback. In the 1984 season, Davis posted three 200-yard games, nine 100-yard games, 1,611 yards, 16 touchdowns, a 7.6 yards-per-carry average and a fifth-place finish in the Heisman balloting. He stills ranks second all time in yards per carry (6.1), third, along with Tony Jeffrey, in career 100-yard games (13), fourth in career rushing yards (2,994) and fifth in rushing touchdowns (24). HONORABLE MENTION: Blanard Spearman, halfback 1930-32; Earl Clark, halfback 1937-39 |
