Maness’s pass-catching exploits in 1984 were unmatched for nearly 20 years. His 871 yards — now second all time — stood as a record until Reggie Harrell’s 1,012 yards in 2003. All-SWC in 1983 and 1984, the speedster is fourth in career receiving yards (2,171). He was twice a track All-American.
